Join us as we start off the 2018 Wessex Festival in style, with a mixed programme of classical, traditional and popular song from vocal trio and pianist, The Leading Ladies.
The programme will include:
- Songs from the First and Second World War eras, including a WW1 medley, ‘White cliffs of Dover’, ‘We’ll gather lilacs’ and ‘Chattanooga Choo Choo’
- Folk songs from around the UK and USA
- Songs by WW1 soldier, poet and composer, Ivor Gurney
- Classics of Swing, including songs by Irving Berlin, George Gershwin and Cole Porter
Bring a picnic to eat in the lovely grounds of Lytchett Minster School from 6pm. A bar will be available during the picnic period and throughout the Gala Concert. The Gainsford Theatre will be set out with tables and chairs for a festive cabaret feel.

The Leading Ladies bring together the musical passions of four extremely talented graduates from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
The Leading Ladies have an enthusiasm to entertain as they perform high-calibre cross-style vocal and piano arrangements.
The Ladies, Catrin Lewis (soprano), Suzi Saperia (soprano), Rosemary Clifford (mezzo-soprano) and Louisa Lam (piano) have all completed postgraduate training at one of the world’s leading conservatoires and performed in some of the most prestigious concert venues throughout Britain and Europe, from Bridgewater Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, and Wigmore Hall to Rouén Opéra in Normandy, Auditori Winterthur in Barcelona and Palacio Real de la Almudaina in Palma.
You can also catch these talented musicians performing regularly with opera companies up and down the country, including Grange Park Opera, Garsington Opera, Opera Anywhere, Opera UpClose, Hampstead Garden Opera, Ryedale Festival Opera and Wexford Festival Opera.
As the ensemble The Leading Ladies they work for Live Music Now and were named as Cooper Hall emerging artists for 2014. They have performed at venues across the UK, including St James’s Piccadilly, Kings Place, Canada Square Park and appeared as part of the 2015 Cambridge Music Festival.
With their wide ranging and eclectic repertoire, The Leading Ladies give memorable performances that will delight audiences of all ages.
